Project 2: Working with Labels and Annotation

Project # 2 allowed our class to learn about labeling and annotation in ArcMap. We all started with the same base map we clipped down to the WNC area. We were supposed make all layers of about equal importance without emphasizing one layer or their labels much more than the others.

Curious what the "clip" zip file did for us?

Remember that "clip" link we used early on in the project directions? I want to understand what that link and zip file did for us.  Was this a pre-defined coordinate system so all of us produce a map of the exact same area?

GIS software is now on my home computer

Yeah... I installed the GIS software on my home computer. This computer is at least four years old.

Emergency Response Area for Newbridge Landslide Area

This is my latest draft as of Sunday (5 mins before kickoff)

First mapping project since last summer. I am feeling rusty...
Project Description: The NC Geological Survey has been investigating a landslide in the northern part of Buncombe County, near the town of Weaverville, NC.  They have found evidence of a landslide area to be unstable and a potential threat to public health.  Staff is working with me, the Buncombe County Public Health GIS Specialist to help analyze threat to residents near the slide. I need to determine all residents living within 1/4 mile of the landslide location, help locate the closest fires station, locate the correct fire district as well as other relevant information.

It appears this parcel has a lot of land and earth moving activity over the last decade. It appears as though the majority of the parcel has some type of off-road trail system for dirt bikes.

Sorry classmates.... No Arc on my home computer right now so I am unable to open much less post any maps on this blog.  I am at my work place today, Saturday, to try to post some of my work here on my blog.  I will have some maps up by Sunday.
